Editorial Workshop Groups

Editorial Workshop Groups.

1. Introduce yourselves and talk about your worst class, English.

2. Read each others' papers twice.

3. While reading the second time, circle areas you don't understand to ask for further clarification.

4. Also, check four obvious spelling errors.

5. Check for Typoss.

6. If there are any fragments, you should highlight them and discuss them so that.

7. You might find a run on fix it.

8. Explain to them what you think their ultimate point is.

9. Offer two suggestions you would incorporate to make this a better paper. What would you add if this was yours?

10. Offer two compliments about what works best in their essay.

Common Errors

NOTES:

Phrase: a group of words without a subject, verb, or both.
Clause: a group of words with a subject and verb.
Two types:
Independent: i like dogs
Dependent: When I like dogs…

Simple Sentence: one independent clause.
EX: I like dogs.

Compound Sentence: Two independent clauses connected by (,and) (,but) (,or) (;)
EX: I like dogs, and I like ice cream.

Complex Sentence: dependent clause, independent clause or independent clause dependent clause.
EX: When I am hungry, I go to Del Taco.
I go to Del Taco when I am hungry.

Voice: Personality
Ideas: What it is about… Important
Conventions: Grammar
Word Choice: Picking the most accurate word
Sentence Fluency: Sentences flow
Organization: The shape.

Writing Process: The steps to completing a good essay.
Invent: Create Ideas…. Watch tv, write in journals, talk..etc.
Draft: the first try.
Revise: Looking for SF and WC
Edit: for grammar
Publish: means perfect.

Topic: What it’s about.
Audience: Who it’s for.
Purpose: Why I wrote it.

Common Errors

Fragments: incomplete sentence
Ex: When I saw the dog gnawing on the bone.

Comma Splice: connecting sentences with commas
I ran, I was tired.

Parallelism: verb tenses need to match….and word endings in a list.
I went to the store, bought bread, and ate it.




Pronoun antecedent Agreement: Pronouns need to match the subject in number/tense….

Every one who drives an SUV will get bad gas mileage because he or she bought an SUV.

Run-ons:
I have a dog who likes popcorn; when I throw it, he catches it and eats it.
